Winter is here, they say, so it is time to prepare for spring, the garden and the land. It is also time to learn new languages and discover new cultures (Hungarian and German are the most important).

Hy there, I am Tudor(42) and a few years back I gave up city life and moved into nature’s heart to regain equilibrium and reconnect with it. Since then I have traveled for a while from village to village, from hamlet to hamlet as a volunteer, just so I get the taste of nature and village life by working the land or taking care of farm animals.

And then, four years ago, I found this plot of land, in the center of Romania, isolated from the village, surrounded by forest, but accessible by road. Since then I have designed and built an earthbag house with reciprocal green roofs, a patio and a root cellar. For this year I plan to finish the house, repair the bathhouse, build the summer kitchen, and start gardening.

As you can see I am more a builder than a gardener, since I was an architect, but I hope to change that by producing most of my food and forage as much as possible since the forest knocks on my door. The COVID pandemic and the recent war in Ukraine made me realize how important it is to be independent and have your own food by living off the land.

What I can offer is not that much, but is all that I have. A house with a warm and clean place to sleep, or a tent when the weather is warm, dry compost toilets, vegan or vegetarian food that we can prepare together or by rotation, clean spring water, a great internet connection, many board games and a lot of quiet time.

Help is always welcomed. You can help in targeted area/domain if you have a certain skill or want to get more experience in a certain area, or you can be a jack of all trades.

Garden and land
We need to clean the raised beds, repair them, cover them with leaves and straw, add some manure and repair the fens. We will clean the land from overgrowth and dead branches while also gathering and cutting wood, clean the place for the future greenhouse, and clean drainage ditches. And when the spring comes we should plant seeds and seedlings, weed and eat the produce.

Cooking and house chores
This year there will be several workshops that I am hosting and I will need help with cooking, foraging, gardening, keeping the place clean and managing the guest needs.

Building with natural materials
There will be workshops about building with natural materials but there are many areas that we can work on inside or outside the house: walls and ceilings to be plastered with earth, floors to be laid in wood or bricks, a kitchen countertop to be decorated, shelves to be built, electrical and water installation to be upgraded. You just need to wonder and be willing to get dirty.

I have a blog and a youtube channel that I regularly post on. If you have „the eye” and the skills you will be in the perfect place all summer long, since there will. E workshops and a lot of activity to document

But the most important thing is cultural exchange. If you know Hungarian it would be pretty cool since I want (and need) to learn it, since all of my neighbors are of Hungarian origin and speak Hungarian (I am proficient in speaking English and French). But sharing your traditions, stories, cooking, music, religion, worldview, will be even greater regardless of your country of origin.

We can work together, or if you like you can work in solitude. We can hike, or you can hike alone if you take the dogs, or you can take the bike to go to the village. I rarely go to visit the county’s big city (Targu Mures) but we can visit together Sovata resort.
