The straw house

Once upon a time there was a piglet that moved in the forest far far away from city life. He didn’t have much but he was young and full of dreams so he thought that a house would be a good first step. He studied many techniques and he decided that he would build a house made of earth.

Will be easy to build, he said to himself, since all I have to do is to move some earth from here to there. So he started and with the help of family, friends and volunteers by the end of the first summer he had the walls. By the end of the second summer he had the roof, windows and door. By the end of the third summer he had a stove, insulation and part of the interior finishes. The house is not finished yet but he enjoys living in it.

But as we said he was a dreamer and since he was also an architect he enjoys building, learning and spreading knowledge. So last summer he started a new project, a summer kitchen – the straw house. Unlike the earth house that is made from earth, it is buried in earth and will have a green earth roof, the new house will be made out of straw with a wood support structure. „It is time to prove to the woolf that he will not be able to get me even with a light house” he said to himself, since many believed that the earth house is a fortress.

The „Straw house” will have an insulated floor made out of light straw-clay with a wood floor board top, walls made of light straw-clay with an interior clay plaster and exterior lime plaster and a roof made of straw with an interior lime plaster.

So for this summer our piglet will organize a 2-3 weeks workshop where we will start from the structure that is already in position and will finish with a finished building where you can live. Will have trainers that are better than the piglet at carpentry, light straw-clay and roof thatching. Will build a stove, electrical system, and water pipes, will put in place windows and doors, and will plaster with clay or lime.

The year is young but there are a lot of things to prepare.
